Improving the school together

History of NWCS

Originally stand 881 in Northcliff, the site on which Northwest Christian School was built was the cradle of several education departments in the area, including Northcliff High and Cliffview Primary before they moved to their premises.

The school then stood vacant, until Linden Presbyterian, Church Alive and Northcliff Union Church decided to act on their vision to start a community school based on Christian values.  United in their outreach into education, these churches established Northwest Christian School in 1993.

In January 1994, the school opened its doors with one teacher and six Grade R pupils, on a property which consisted of a handful of prefab classrooms.  The school grew steadily, building new permanent classrooms and facilities in phases.  In 2001, we achieved our first Grade 7 class.  At present, there are over 476 pupils in classes from Grade R to Grade 7, with three classes per grade.

Philosophy and Objectives

Northwest Christian School seeks to serve the surrounding community and is evangelical by nature.  We aim to help our pupils receive a quality education without discrimination along race and gender lines.  We also aim to espouse high moral, spiritual and educational standards.  Our vision is a school dedicated to maintaining Christian principles and we are supported in this vision by Church Alive and Northcliff Union Church, with whom we maintain close ties.

We provide quality, child-centred education in a caring and supportive learning environment.  Furthermore, we see ourselves as an extension of the family and we hope to develop a warm, loving atmosphere within the school.
